A mixed use, mixed income development at a gateway into the heart of Northampton, The Lumber Yard will provide families and individuals with the opportunity to live in one of the area’s most desirable communities.  

A co-development between Valley Community Development and Way Finders. Offering access to the cultural, commercial, educational, and transportation opportunities of a small, vibrant city, The Lumber Yard apartments highlight the values and ideals of the surrounding community.  The former Northampton Lumber Company property is being transformed into 55 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with approximately 5,400 square feet of commercial space on Pleasant Street.  Valley Community Development will locate its offices from Market Street to the Holyoke Street commercial space.

12 apartments are reserved for households earning 30% or below the Area Median Income (AMI).  2 of those apartments will be reserved for residents who are at risk of institutionalization or who are currently living in a nursing home setting. There are 5 fully accessible apartments.  

43 apartments are reserved for households earning at or below 60% AMI. Preference for homeless families and individuals and those at risk of homelessness applies for six of the apartments. Twelve of the units come with project-based rental assistance subsidies.

On-site services include laundry facilities, a property management office, resident parking, small playground and courtyard, a community room and easy access to Valley Community Development’s homeownership and small business services at its new Holyoke Street offices.
