Holyoke neighbors celebrate community during NeighborWorks Week

[Holyoke, MA]— On Saturday, June 10th Holyoke residents and volunteers worked to improve the block around Essex and Chestnut Street, where a new affordable housing project known as Library Commons is planned to be developed. Way Finders celebrated what makes the project special, as part of a week-long celebration of neighborhood revitalization activities nationally recognized as NeighborWorks Week.

During NeighborWorks Week (June 3-10), Way Finders and other NeighborWorks organizations across the country mobilized tens of thousands of residents, business people and government officials in a week of neighborhood change and awareness, including painting and landscaping properties, recognizing successful partnerships and hosting a number of events that educate, train and inform. Way Finders hosted a Meet the Lenders public event in Springfield for home buyers and partnered lenders as well as coordinated a community clean up in Holyoke.

For the second year, the Citi Foundation is NeighborWorks America’s national partner for NeighborWorks Week. In addition to a financial commitment, Citi volunteers are joining forces with NeighborWorks organizations across the country to support various projects during Citi’s flagship volunteer program, Global Community Day, on June 10.

Way Finders is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of more than 240 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2016, the NeighborWorks network helped 360,000 individuals and families with affordable housing and counseling. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
